Weekly Recap - Jan. 4 - 10

Campus is buzzing with the return of the students this weekend and the start of classes today. Pair that with Big South Conference basketball matchups that have already proven every game is going to be a fight and it makes for an exciting time of year. The men’s basketball team has put up a 3-1 record in the last four games, with two overtime games, and the other two games being decided by three points each. The women’s team got a win on the road at UNC Asheville, which will likely prove to be a key victory when the final standings shake out in March.

Freshman Jeremy Sexton earns his first CSU Athlete of the Week honor of his career after averaging a team-best 18.3 points per game in three games last week. He shot almost 60 percent from the field and 63.2 percent from three.

Against Winthrop, Sexton had 19 points, including a stretch of 11 straight points for CSU. On the road against UNC Asheville, Sexton had 10 points in the final 10 minutes of regulation, and hit a three with 31 seconds left in the first overtime, which gave CSU for good as they held on for the victory.

January 4 – WBB @ UNC Asheville – W, 67-50
Helen Terry had a career-high 18 points while LeChell Rush and Katie Tull each had 11 points as the Buccaneers got a huge Big South road victory.
