Weekly Recap - February 28 - March 7

What a great finish to the week! CSU had nine home events in two days this weekend and took victories in eight of them.

After going 2-0 in her two starts for the softball team, Caitlin Allen has been named the CSU Athlete of the Week. Allen gave up just four hits and one run in the championship game of the 2010 Lowcountry Invitational.

Allen also pitched a complete game against Dayton, allowing four hits and one run, while striking out a career-high five batters. She was the only pitcher at the tournament to record multiple wins and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Pitcher for her efforts.

February 28 – March 1 – M. Golf – Charleston Shootout
The men’s golf team co-hosted a tournament with the College of Charleston at Stono Ferry to kickoff the week. Georgia took home the team title, but CSU tied for fourth overall after getting a seventh-place finish from Kelvin Day and an eighth-place effort from Jacobo Pastor.

Final Results

March 2 – MBB @ Radford – L, 64-61 (OT) – Big South Tournament
The men’s basketball season came to an end in heartbreaking fashion. CSU had what they felt was a favorable draw in the first round, facing a tough Radford team, but one that the Bucs had beaten once, and taken to overtime on the road in the other regular season matchup. Again the game went into overtime, and with plenty of shots to tie or win the game in the extra five minutes, CSU was not able to pull off the upset on the road. Jeremy Sexton, who had 18 points in the game, earned Big South Freshman of the Year honors, while Jamarco Warren earned a team on the first all-conference team. Kelvin Martin finished second in the Defensive Player of the Year voting.

March 3 – Baseball @ College of Charleston – L, 12-7
The first of three meetings between the cross-town rivals went the way of the Cougars, but not without the help of the CSU defense, which committed five errors. Even with the miscues, CSU hung around and trailed 8-6 in the eighth inning, but a four-spot for CofC broke the game open.
