Marky Boyce has been named this week’s CSU Athlete of the Week after posting three goals in two games, two of which were game-winners.

Boyce scored the game-winner with 0:01 on the clock against Longwood, corralling a back-heel pass from Caitlin Wesnesky in the box before hammering it home with time running out. The goal gave CSU a 2-1 victory over Longwood. She followed that performance up on Saturday with two goals against Liberty, helping CSU to a 3-2 victory. Her first goal was off a nice pass that got Boyce loose in the box. With all the patience in the world despite defenders bearing down on her, Boyce settled the ball and drilled it into the corner of the net. Then in the 67th minute she intercepted a cross from the LU defense and again found the back of the net for what proved to be her second game-winner in a row.

September 28 – Soccer vs. Longwood – W, 2-1
A regulation soccer game is 90 minutes long and it took the Lady Bucs 89:59 to find the game winner, but they did so on a beautiful back heel pass from Caitlin Wesnesky to Marky Boyce, who despite the clock winding down took a touch in the box and buried it in the back of the next with one second showing on the clock. It was a hand ball in the 55th minute that gave CSU their first goal as the result was a penalty kick that freshman Emma Krantz buried in the corner of the net.

September 28 – Volleyball vs. Winthrop – L, 3-0
Calling it a sweep does not do justice to how close the match was as CSU fell to Winthrop in straight sets. The final two sets were decided by just two points, including an extra-point decision in set two. Amanda Hill had 12 kills and 16 digs, and lined up a rocket shot on set point in game two but it was dug out nicely by the Eagles. Cori Holeman had eight kills and four blocks, while Tricia Rodl had 13 digs.

October 2 – Volleyball @ Liberty – L, 3-0
Amanda Hill posted her 15th double-digit kill of the season (in 18 games) with 10 kills, while Emily Libertowski posted two service aces, but it was not enough as the Lady Bucs fell on the road at Liberty. The Flames out-hit CSU with 48 kills to CSUs 25 as the taller Liberty squad kept hitting over the Bucs’ block. CSU was in set one 25-20 but after dropping that tough decision, couldn’t get things going in sets two or three.

October 2 – Soccer vs. Liberty – W, 3-2
CSU gave up an early 2-0 lead, with Liberty scoring on their first two shots of the day. Late in the first half Marky Boyce got back in the scoring column for the third game in a row, calmly collecting the ball inside the 18 and pounding it off the keeper’s hands but into the corner of the net. After Toni Lashley had a one-on-one with the keeper blocked, she got another chance in the second half and did not miss, finding the equalizer. In the 67th minute, CSU scored again, this time it was a poor clearance by the Flames’ defenders that put the ball right at the feet of Boyce at the top of the 18. Again, she knew what to do with it, scoring her 13th goal of the season and giving CSU the 3-2 victory.
