Weekly Recap - November 30 - December 6

Wins early in the week and records on the track over the weekend highlight this week in Buccaneer athletics.

With two school records and a facility record, Javon Young has been named this week’s CSU Athlete of the Week. Young took down the 60m dash record on Friday at Clemson, running 6.72 to break the school mark of 6.73 that he set last year.

On Saturday, Young competed in the Appalachian State Opener, breaking the school mark in the 55m dash (6.35) and the facility record with a victory in the 200m dash.

Jeremy Sexton, Gabrielle Houston and Ali Schwagmeyer were also nominated for the honor.
Nov. 30 – MBB vs. Toccoa Falls – W, 103-53
CSU out-rebounded Toccoa Falls 70-20, breaking the school record for rebounds in a game as the Bucs cruised to their fourth victory of the season. Jamarco Warren had 22 points and four steals, despite playing less than 20 minutes. Kelvin Martin just missed the double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds.

Dec. 1 - WBB @ UNC Greensboro – W, 56-54
The Buccaneers put together their best defensive performance, holding UNCG to just 54 points (tying them with Limestone for the fewest points scored against CSU this year), as CSU held on for the two-point win. It was the first-ever victory over the Spartans in 15 tries.

Dec. 3 – MBB @ Liberty – L, 69-53
CSU went cold offensively, shooting just 26 percent on the road against Liberty, going almost five minutes at the end of the game without a field goal. Jamarco Warren again led the team with 17 points, while Jeremy Sexton came through with 10 points, two assists and two steals.

Dec. 5 – MBB @ VMI – L, 103-91
The offense came back as CSU reached 90 points for the third time this season, but for the first time, scored that many and lost. Jeremy Sexton continued his solid play with a team-high 22 points, while Kelvin Martin had 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Dec. 4-5 – Track and Field @ Roaring Tiger / App State Opener
Javon Young broke the App. State facility record and the CSU school record in the 200m dash, while Levi Brooks broke the facility record in the 300m at Clemson. Young also broke the 60m dash record, beating his old record by hundredths of a second. A number of other personal records fell, including Gabrielle Houston’s 60m dash record, missing the school mark by 0.01 seconds in an event victory at Clemson.

Dec. 6 – WBB @ Clemson – L, 104-52
The Clemson defense shut down CSU in the second half, including shutting the Bucs out from behind the arc as they ran away from a nine-point halftime lead. Averaging 11 threes a game, CSU made just five, with all five coming in the first half. Katie Tull led the nation in threes made, but got just one through the hoop in the game.
