Weekly Recap - November 8 - 14

The end of the fall sports is on the horizon and basketball is just gearing up, making this a great time to be a Buccaneer!

Amanda Hill has been named the CSU Athlete of the Week after breaking a pair of CSU records during two games this week.

Hill capped a sensational regular season with a 25-kill performance Saturday vs. Presbyterian, giving her 534 kills in 2010. Friday vs. Gardner-Webb, Hill posted her 19th double-double of the season, with 12 kills and 19 digs in the Lady Bucs sweep of the Runnin’ Bulldogs. She also added three aces and four blocks on the weekend, and posted three kills during a 5-0 run to open up a 17-8 lead during a 25-11 set two win vs. GWU.

November 12 – Volleyball vs. Gardner-Webb – W, 3-1
Amanda Hill broke the single-season and career matches played records on Friday night in a 3-1 victory over Gardner-Webb. Kayla Klinger and Hill both posted double-doubles with Klinger getting the upper hand in kills with 14. Amberle Trinder had six blocks, while Erin LaVenice registered a season-high five kills and also had three blocks.

Match Highlights

November 12 – Men’s Basketball @ Georgia Tech – L, 52-39
The defense did its job, holding ACC foe Georgia Tech to just 52 points and held them to just 28 percent shooting on the night, but CSU turned the ball over 29 times and made just seven of 12 free throws in the second half. Freshman Johathan Brooks led the charge for CSU with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

November 13 – Cross Country @ NCAA Southeast Region Meet
Andrew King and Adrienne Cuff led their respective squads, each posting times better than they did at the same course last season. It was the final meet of the year for the cross country teams as they now turn their focus to the indoor track and field season.

November 13 – Football vs. Presbyterian – W, 42-39
The Bucs led as much as 42-24, but 15 points in the fourth quarter by Presbyterian College made some of the 18 seniors sweat in their final home game of the season. A total of 21 members of the football program (18 seniors, 3 senior student assistants) were honored before the game in which CSU ended a six-game losing streak this year. It was the fifth win in a row over PC.

November 13 – Volleyball vs. Presbyterian – L, 3-1
The pressure of senior day may have been too much for the volleyball team as they also honored a large group (5) of seniors before the game as they tried to make it 2-0 against PC for the Bucs on Saturday. CSU earned a victory in set two, tying the match, but could not get over the hump in the final two sets. They will enter the 2010 Big South Championship as the sixth seed, facing Asheville in the first round.

November 13 – Women’s Basketball vs. Erskine – W, 101-54
It was never really a contest, despite not shooting well in the first half. The Bucs used a 15-2 first-half run and cruised to a season-opening victory at home, finishing off a busy day of CSU athletics. Kelsey Wasmer had 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Katie Tull added 12 points. Lakeitha Alson stole the show, scoring a career-high 27 points, dominating the paint for CSU.

November 13 – Women’s Basketball @ Clemson – L, 85-52
A quick turnaround after a late night, CSU had to try to take on Clemson with barely 12 hours of rest. Kelsey Wasmer had 15 points, but CSU could not get the three pointers to drop, shooting just 10 percent from behind the arc as tired legs seemingly prevailed.
