Weekly Recap - May 16-22

Some tremendous things going on in the department as all of our sports continue to wind down. The baseball team beat a nationally-ranked Coastal Carolina team and ensured that they would have a top-4 seed in the upcoming tournament. As it turns out, they got the #3 seed after being picked eighth in the preseason poll! Also announced this week was the fact that
Javon Young, Tamisha Foster and the men’s 4x100m relay team will be going to the NCAA Preliminary Round
in Indiana later this week, and Amanda D’Ostroph was named to the Capital One Academic All-District first team. Rounding out the good news and sticking with golf is a top-35 finish by Jacobo Pastor at the NCAA Southeast Region, and a 23-shot victory by Coach Kory Thompson in the Charleston Women’s Amateur Tournament. Way to go Bucs! As always, it’s a great time to be a Buccaneer!

Nick Chinners has been named this week’s CSU Athlete of the Week after going 6-for-12 against Coastal Carolina. Additionally, Chinners became the first player since Derek Smith more than a year ago to homer twice in the same game.

Chinners had three extra base hits, including the two home runs, and also accounted for three RBIs in the series. Jeff Hartsell also just wrote a great feature story about Chinners in today's Post and Courier..

Also Nominated: Brantley Meier (Baseball)
