After falling behind by 12 in the first half, the Lady Buccaneers, led by Katie Tull’s 18 points and Pam Tolbert’s 15, pulled back to within three with just over two minutes remaining. It would prove to be as close as they would get, despite hitting nine three pointers in the second half, as they fell 72-64 to the Winthrop Eagles.

Monday, Feb. 2 – MBB vs. High Point
The men’s basketball team found themselves locked in a fight with High Point in game two of the double-header at the Buc Dome. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6-7 – Track @ New Balance Invitational
Levi Brooks and Dionne Gibson each qualified for the finals in the 400m dash at the New Balance Invitational in New York City. Gibson broke the school’s 400m record for the second time this year, while a number of other Lady Bucs posted season-bests, including Amerikorie Odey (60m hurdles) and Jessica Thomas (60m dash). The men’s 4x200m relay won the meet after James Ward, Javon Young, Levi Brooks and Cornelius Tyler combined to run 1:26.20 to win by more than a full second.

Friday, Feb. 6 – SB vs. N.C. Central

Offensively, Megan Hall had three hits, three RBI and scored all three times, while Gail Matsushima and Amy Trenkamp each had two hits.

Saturday, Feb. 7 – SB vs. N.C. Central (DH)
Back for more, it was more of the same for CSU as they completed the sweep of N.C. Central with a pair of five-inning mercy rule wins. Sondra Vetter stole the show in game one, throwing a perfect game in an 8-0 victory. Vetter struck out seven batters, including all three hitters in the second inning. Wellons took the circle again for game two, giving up just one earned run in three innings, while Kristin Kelleher came in to finish off the 11-3 victory from the circle. Amy Trenkamp had two hits and four RBI in the double header, while Megan Hall and Gail Matsushima continued their solid weekend with three hits and three RBI between the two games.

Saturday, Feb. 7 – Tennis vs. Campbell
In their season-opener, the women’s tennis team took down Campbell 4-3 on Saturday. Andrea Schutte and Angie Torres won their doubles match, while Brooke Pletcher and Leonie Mandelkow took theirs to give CSU the all-important doubles point. Schutte, Pletcher and Olga Makhova each won their singles matches, giving the Lady Bucs the victory.

Saturday, Feb. 7 – WBB vs. UNC Asheville
Despite their fifth-highest offensive output of the season, the Lady Bucs fell in overtime to UNC Asheville, 87-83. CSU shot better than 43 percent for the game but were 0-4 from three point range in overtime in the loss. Pam Tolbert had 30 points, while Kelsey Wasmer dropped in 17 with eight rebounds. Ali Schwagmeyer just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. The CSU defense held UNCA scoreless for the final 2:30 of regulation to erase a deficit and force overtime. A quick three by UNCA set the tone as they moved past CSU.

Saturday, Feb. 7 – MBB vs. UNC Asheville
CSU used a quick start to grab a 12-point lead (18-6) early in the game, but could not hold on as they fell 80-71 to the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville.
